With the help of your active adult community specialist, Wilma Pinstein, and her guide to Summer Road Trips in Florida for Senior Citizens, you will be well on your way to making fond memories out on the open road in the easiest ways possible.

The Florida Keys – If you have an RV, point it south and head on down to Bluewater Key RV Resort in the Florida Keys. This luxury RV is one of the most popular in the Keys and it’s easy to understand why. Located just 14 miles north of Key West, Bluewater Key RV Resort offers landscaped sites that average 35-40 feet wide and 80+ feet long. All of the sites include sewer, electric, cable TV and WiFi. Almost all sites have views of the water, where visitors can enjoy swimming, fishing, snorkeling and boating.

St. Augustine – Dubbed the nation’s oldest city, St. Augustine has some of the richest Old Florida history available. Here, you can visit the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum and Castillo de San Marcos National Monument – the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. If you plan on staying overnight, our 55-plus communityspecialist, suggests staying at St. George Inn which is located in the Historic District of St. Augustine.

Pensacola and the Florida Panhandle – If you’re interested in taking a longer road trip after moving to your 55-plus active adult community in South Florida, make your way across the state and trail up the Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway. Along the way, you will find scenic coastline views and have a chance to stop at the beach, as well as the Gulf Breeze Zoo. The zoo is home to over 900 different animals and several gardens, covering 50-square acres.

Ormond Beach – If you’re an active senior citizen interested in a road tip that will include hiking, swimming, biking and fishing, Ormond Beach is the destination for you. The Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail includes access to the Atlantic Ocean and numerous state and public parks. Along with outdoor recreational activities, Ormond Beach also offers premier dining, shopping and hotels along quaint Main Street in downtown.

Cedar Key – Known for its fresh seafood and southern hospitality, Cedar Key offers visitors the opportunity to experience Florida’s natural beauty. On your way, stop at Crystal River and get up close and personal with some of the state’s gentlest giants – the West Indian manatees! After swimming with the manatees, be sure to make it to Cedar Key before dark to catch one of the most amazing sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico.
