And, this is year is the 46th anniversary of Earth Day, which was first held on April 22, 1970!
So, let’s start with how you can make a difference:

Get Cleaning:  The city of Boca Raton is having a beach and mangrove cleanup called the Great American Clean-Up, which will take place on April 16, at the Spanish River Park. Visit the Great American Clean-Up website for more information on various dates and times of local clean-ups and events.

Attend the Earth Day Event: You can go to the 3rd Annual Florida Earth Festival on Sunday, April 23 in Boca Raton, Florida, featuring outdoor and indoor events. Both the outdoor and indoor events will have food and entertainment, alternative fuel vehicles, and an Eco-Park for Green Vendors. The vendors are asked to offer items that are in line with the “green” mentality: “Reuse, recycle, upcycle.” There will also be plenty events aimed at educating both the young and the not-so-young on a sustainable lifestyle, including energy, air, and water workshops for kids – the perfect opportunity to make new friend with those in your 55+ community in Boca and come together to learn sustainable living.

Visit Nature Centers: South Florida is home to some vast nature centers, such as the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, which also happens to be one of Boca Raton’s most visited attractions. With 20 acres of protected barrier island, Gumbo Limbo has committed to increasing public awareness on the coastal and marine ecosystems in South Florida. They also play a vital role in protecting the nests of sea turtles along South Florida’s beaches.

If not there, then try the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, which is located west of Boynton Beach, is a dedicated to conserving America’s fish, wildlife and plants as part of the network of lands and waters managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Or visit the Green Cay Nature Center, located in Delray Beach. The center has one and a half miles of elevated boardwalk over acres of constructed wetlands. They offer guided audio tours, or if you prefer to simply explore, you can learn about the habitat through guided signs and explanations located along the trail. And if your Fibonacci skills are in place, then grab your camera because the center is a photographer’s dream. The center is packed with rare birds and species that roam the wetlands.

These are just some ideas of ways you can participate and get educated on ways to start helping our environment to help make our planet a safe place for future generations. Because even future generations want to feel the luxury of living in a 55 plus active adult community
