Activities for the Active Adult Community in South Florida

If you’re planning on moving to an active adult communityin South Florida, you’re already well on your way to living a life filled with opportunities for fun, health, and social happenings. However, if you are moving from out-of-state, you may need a little bit of guidance on discovering all the great things your new city has to offer.

To help you uncover all of the fun activities for the active adult community in South Florida, our 55-plus community specialist, Wilma Pinstein, has put together a list of destinations that offer everything you’ve been looking for in retirement.

Hit the Beach – West Palm Beach is the perfect place to kick of your shoes, throw on some flip flops, and head out on the sand for some relaxation and sun. Not the lounging type? Head to the beach in the early morning hours for a brisk stroll and catch a breathtaking sunrise.

Explore the Palm Beach Zoo – Located off Summit Boulevard, the Palm Beach Zoo is one of the county’s most popular attractions. The zoo is home to over 700 animals that come from all over the world. Our active adultcommunity specialist, Wilma Pinstein, suggests avoiding the crowds and heading to the zoo early on a weekday. Parking is free and admission is $17.50 for seniors aged 60 and older. However, if you sign up your community group, you can receive a group rate of $12.75 per person.

Catch a show at the Kravis Center – The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is located in Downtown West Palm Beach and brings several of the most famous broadways, plays, and other shows to its stage. If you are interested in spending more time at the Kravis Center and have a passion for the performing arts, become a part of the extensive volunteer program. By doing so, you join the active adult community in South Florida that takes part in theater administration, hospitality, education, retail, tour guides, ushering and more!

Stroll through Mounts Botanical Garden – Take a day and discover the beautiful gardens of Mounts Botanical Garden. The diverse exhibits include the butterfly garden, rainbow garden, edible landscapes, tropical forest, native plant garden, Mediterranean garden and Begonia garden, and can all be found at Mounts along with many others. The Gardens are open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is $5 per person.

Take a DivaDuck Boat Tour – Boat tours, such as DivaDuck Amphibious Tours, are the perfect way to explore your new home after moving to your active adult community in South Florida - without having to leave your seat! The DivaDuck sightseeing tour begins on a bus and takes you through CityPlace and downtown, with a guide narrating along the way. After exploring on land, your tour bus turns into a boat and heads into the Intracoastal for further sightseeing on the waterway. The tour lasts 75 minutes and tickets are $25.00 per person.

Go on a Nature Walk in Grassy Waters Nature Preserve – Skip the treadmill and head to Grassy Waters Nature Preserve in order to take in all the natural beauty South Florida has to offer on a nature walk. During your walk, you’ll have the opportunity to observe wildlife such as wood storks, alligators, white ibis, and white-tailed deer in their natural environment. The park is open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 8:30-5:00 p.m. Grassy Waters is closed on all government holidays.
